I had been thinking about jumping on to the film bandwagon, but was feeling intimidated by the process and unsure how to start. If you are like me and have been intrigued to try out film…maybe again…you don’t want to miss this breakout!! I shot film back in the 80’s and I thought I knew what I was doing, but Jennifer Lawrence has quickly filled in gaps I didn’t even know I had!! From the basics, such as loading both 35 and medium format film, to rating and pushing films, to how to meter properly, and how to best select a lab, Jennifer has provided a wealth of information. Nothing is held back and everything is clear and concise. Moreover, Jennifer has inspired me with her gorgeous images and helpful information. Jennifer has made a believer out of me, and I can’t wait to try out my new (old) camera and to capture the magic that only film can deliver. If you’ve even THOUGHT about trying film again, you won’t want to miss this one!!
I was thrilled to learn about Everyday Film. As someone who knew nothing about film prior to this breakout, I now feel confident about choosing the right film for the right situation, rating film, pushing film, processing and editing film, and working with a lab. Jennifer’s participation in the forum has been incredible. I have taken several breakouts in the past, and this one has by far been the most informative and helpful. I can’t believe how quickly I’m learning the nuts and bolts of film photography, and I’m eager to grow with the facebook group!
If you are looking for an excellent, comprehensive introduction into film photography – THIS IS YOUR BREAKOUT! It’s packed with the perfect amount of information you need to get started and the videos are fantastic. Jen is so open with her time and tips on learning film photography which will give you so much more confidence if you’re starting out. Be careful…film photography will become an addictive hobby for you after this breakout! I’ve already gone through a handful of rolls and am anxiously awaiting scans to come back from the labs. Which is a nice refresher for me compared to chimping off the back of my digital camera and just quickly going through my SD cards. Film photography is a breath of fresh air for me in my photography journey, forcing me to take an extra step back, an extra breath back and really wait for that decisive moment. Jen’s breakout has helped me with all the knowledge I could ever need before clicking that shutter button.
Jennifer was incredibly thoughtful with her responses to questions and so generous with her time. She provided thorough information in the PDF and videos. I feel inspired (and equipped) to start shooting more film in my everyday life and trusting my skills more with all of those important (and “important to me”) life moments. Exactly what I was looking for with this breakout!
